Sgt. Benjamin T. Field served with Co. E, 10th Kentucky Cavalry Regt., C.S.A. In his memoir, compiled several years after the war, Field describes the organization of his regiment, his capture three weeks after his enlistment and his imprisonment at Johnson Island. Following his release, he rejoined his unit which was placed under the command of John Hunt Morgan. Field's regiment accompanied Morgan on his 1863 raid into Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio which is described in some detail. He also relates his subsequent capture and imprisonment for 18 months at Camp Douglas, Ill., as well as his experiences on a Virginia farm during the final months of the war.
